Dopey is one of the best-known monkeys in Monkey Hill. He was an especially photogenic baby, with large round eyes and a tendency to get into accidents. However, he was also extremely weak, taking a full month to learn how to walk. It is possible he was born prematurely.
Dopey got his name because he was usually sleeping as an infant. His mother Reddy did not bear a baby the year after his birth, so he nursed with her as long as he could. Dopey was accident-prone as an infant, once almost rolling down a steep hill when trying to pick up a corn cob, or almost drowning in a few centimeters of water from sheer clumsiness.
Dopey, as an infant, once had a memorable encounter with alpha male Cocky. He interrupted a grooming session from Nelly when he started pulling on Cocky's testicles. Unfortunately, Cocky did not realize Dopey was to blame and Nelly took the brunt of his anger. But in Cocky's rush to attack Nelly, he swept Dopey aside, terrifying the tiny infant. Thankfully, Dopey's mother Reddy was nearby to console him as Cocky chased Nelly away.
As he grew into adolescence, he became more mischievous and perhaps a bit malevolent at times. Eventually, he grew into a clever, streetwise adult.
Dopey grew up in Bossy's troop, but left the troop in 2020, at 4 years of age (which is normal for male monkeys of that age).
