Gypsy is a low-ranking monkey in Bossy's troop. She is a strange mother who will only nurse her children on a full stomach. Once her children turn a few weeks old, she begins to offload parenting duties to her adult children Krissy or Rudy. This is often very disturbing for the infant, whose cries for their mother can be heard all over Monkey Hill.
Gypsy is not a completely worthless mother. She ferociously defends her children if the situation requires it, and she does make sure her kids have at least the minimum amount of food that they need for the day. But she is easily one of the least-loving mothers in Monkey Hill, although she sometimes makes exceptions for some of her more favored children.
Gypsy is a violent groomer, opting to pluck instead of gently stroke. Because of her grooming technique, her son Knitty had bald patches on his forehead as a baby.
AM has speculated that Gypsy may have some sort of cognitive impairment that keeps her from getting too close to her children.
