Barry is a Drifter monkey. He was "alpha regent" of Bossy's troop, despite being the matriarch Bossy's son.
Barry was not an effective alpha. He was more interested in bullying low-ranking troop members and collecting goodies than in actually defending the troop from neighboring troops.
In order to get the alpha job, Barry viciously attacked his brother Barney, ripping open one side of his face. Barney left the troop soon afterwards.
While Barry can be harsh to low-ranking monkeys, he was very gentle and caring to younger monkeys in his clan. He was one of the monkeys who helped care for and carry around his sister Bessy after her serious foot injury, and was often seen caringly grooming boys like Tinky.
